My wife and I flew into San Jose for a 2 day visit last Tuesday for some work related stuff. Dinner that evening was a lock at Anatolian Kitchen in Palo Alto. We found out about this authentic Turkish / Kurdish food restaurant from the co-owner Dino at his other restaurant Nemea Greek Taverna in downtown San Jose where we enjoyed fabulous food & service a few weeks ago. So we arrived at around 6pm and were shown to a table in the main dining room adjacent to the full bar. A very sweet server named Nesli looked us after almost the whole time. I kept it simple with a Blue Moon Beer to kick things off and a couple of glasses of cool water. We looked through the extensive menu and after a while finally decided on a couple of entrees. My wife chose the Manti ( Anatolian Beef Dumplings ) and I went for Alexander’s Favorite ( Iskender ). My ice cold Blue Moon Beer in a nice tall glass came out very quickly thanks to Nesli. The co-owner Dino dropped by to say hi and asked us what dishes we had selected. We are not real familiar with Turkish food but Dino assured us we would enjoy our selections. A few minutes later Dino brought out a big bowl of fresh Pita Bread with a side dish of delicious Hummus, Tzatziki & Ezme for us to enjoy. Our entrees came out soon after courtesy of Dino and they looked huge serves. My wife was in raptures enjoying her petite Beef Dumplings smothered in Garlic Yogurt. On the other hand my Alexander’s Favorite tasted like tender kebab beef slices ( I love doner kebabs ) but was even better with the yogurt and tomato sauce contrast. My wife couldn’t get through her huge meal ( I had the leftovers for lunch the next day and loved it ) whereas I did not leave a scrap on my plate. So we thought….maybe some dessert. Dino and Nesli told us that their house made Baklava was the best anywhere. We believed them and said bring it on ! My God was our Baklava with Pistachio Toppings out of this world. The best without a doubt that we have enjoyed. We loved our dinner here……nice cosy atmosphere, wonderful service, sensational meals and dessert. After thanking Dino the co-owner and Nesli our talented server for our wonderful dinner experience we headed off. We want it all again !
