Byron Bay..if you have never been here you have no idea what you are missing ! Back in 1991 when I was still a long haired leaping gnome a lady friend introduced me to the karma of Byron Bay. This is where I enjoyed my first ever latte at a Wategos Beach cafe ..and I loved it ! Many visits and many years later I introduced my American wife to Byron Bay in 2002 and she loved it. We made multiple weekend trips to Byron Bay with family or friends up until 2006 when we relocated to San Diego, California.
When we had a 2 week vacation back in Queensland, Australia in 2013..and Byron Bay in northern NSW was pencilled in for a 2 day stopover. Of course wherever we stay..a great coffee shop has to be nearby. We were so pleased to find the Mokha Cafe on Lawson Street in downtown Byron Bay..just a short walk to the beach. We stopped by at about 10.30am for cappuccinos on our first morning in Byron Bay. Our coffees were great and the food menu looked alright but we weren’t hungry at that time of the morning. After our coffee break we had a nice stroll around the nearby stores ( shops ) checking out lots of stuff we missed about Australia. And there is lots to see and do in Byron Bay.
My wife enjoyed a tandem hang glider flight over the beautiful coastline and we walked a mile up to the Cape Byron Lighthouse. After breakfast at our apartment on the final day we came back to this cafe for coffees again. We savored our well made cappuccinos while sitting on the cafe patio. Apart from the excellent coffee and amazing menu the best thing about Cafe Mokha is it’s location in the heart of Byron Bay. We can’t wait to come back !
