Central Grocery & Deli

THIS IS WHERE YOU WANT TO HAVE LUNCH !

New Orleans is a real cool place and Central Grocery & Deli is a great place to have lunch in New Orleans ! My wife and I had lunch at this very famous deli about 7 years ago on our first visit to New Orleans and our Muffuletta Sandwich was incredibly satisfying. Fast forward to April 30th 2017 and we were back in town to see Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers at the Jazz & Heritage Festival at the Fair Grounds Race Course. It was a short 2 day trip but the Central Grocery & Deli was top of our to do list.

The place was really busy when we walked in to have lunch after walking from the Maison Dupuy Hotel where we were staying. We ordered a full Muffuletta Sandwich at the service counter and then waited a few minutes until it was made. After picking up our huge sandwich we sat on bar stools at the community bench counter to enjoy our lunch. Of course silly us forgot just how big a full sandwich is and we could only get through half but gee it sure was tasty !

At 20 bucks for the whole shebang it sounds like a lot of dough but the sandwich is really huge and they stack plenty of tasty filling on it. When we left with one half of the Muffuletta Sandwich all wrapped up we spotted a homeless lady sitting on the sidewalk outside and gave the rest to her. They stock a huge range of imported Italian goods such as Pasta, Marinara Sauce, Olives & much more. There is plenty of seating inside so you can enjoy your food in peace. If you ever visit New Orleans then put this iconic eatery on your bucket list. It can get very busy here around lunch time so get here a bit early. Thanks to Bradley for the friendly service and also to John the manager for the very nice welcome !
