AMALFI MAGIC !

View from our table.

As part of our 4 day vacation in beautiful Salerno, Italy our travel agent organized bike rentals with Cycling Amalfi Coast for the day on Friday, Sept 22nd. My wife and I headed off on our eBikes from our apartment in Salerno at around 11am for the 18 mile ride to Amalfi. We expected to be in Amalfi by about 12.30pm in time for a relaxing lunch but we took a wrong turn along the way. It wasn’t until 2.20pm after a 63 mile ride in 83F heat with 70% humidity that we finally made it to tourist crazy Amalfi.

My wife’s Saltimboacca Ghiotto.

We were very hungry and beat up after our crazy long bike ride. There must have been a zillion people dining at restaurants, bars, cafes and standing around taking selfies with statues. HA HA ! We parked our rental eBikes, activated the onboard locks and decided to have lunch right here. LATE LUNCH ! It wasn’t until after 3pm that we planted ourselves at a table on the sheltered outdoor patio. A sweet server named Filamena came by to take our lunch order.

My Maxi Hamburger & beer.

BEER ! When in a strange country go with a beer you know. I wasn’t too keen on the printed beer menu so I headed inside for help. Sandro the savvy owner understood what I meant when I asked for a strong beer and pulled out a Tennent’s Super Strong Lager – 9% abv. I had already tried one of these kick ass lagers at a cafe in Salerno. We also asked for glasses of water . . the water is delicious in Italy. FOOD ! My wife decided on a Saltimboacca Ghiotto ( smoked ham, mozzarella and tomato grilled sandwich ) while I ordered a Maxi Hamburger ( beef patty, tomato, mixed salad, mayonnaise, crispy onion ) and a serve of French Fries. Italians love to eat late and this place was packed out.

Huge serve of delicate French Fries.

Thankfully our lunch order arrived much quicker than we expected and looked totally spectacular. The huge serve of delicate French Fries looked heavenly. My wife loved her scrumptious Grilled Sandwich and I thought my Maxi Hamburger knocked it clean outa the ballpark. The French Fries were the most delectable crispy fresh cooked fries we have ever tasted. And I loved my ice cold Tennent’s Super Strong Lager. We were very happy with our delicious lunch and the friendly service. TOTALLY ENDORSED BY US !
