A few years back my wife and I were up in L.A overnight to see the sensational Queen rock musical “We Will Rock You” at the Ahmanson Theatre located inside The Los Angeles Music Center. We did an online search for a great place to have breakfast on Sunday morning. Sqirl came out ahead of a million eateries for it’s original & eclectic breakfast menu. We jumped in our car back at our hotel and arrived here about 10am. We even managed to find a parking spot about 100 yards away.
There was a gang of people here already so we jumped in the line. It’s a busy cafe but we didn’t wait that long to get our orders in from the vast and eclectic menu board. We ordered 2 hot Lattes and a couple of interesting specials from the board. While waiting for our order I had a chat with a nice guy named Ryan who happened to be the boyfriend of Sqirl owner / chef Jessica. You wouldn’t think of finding a great breakfast / lunch place in this neck of the woods.
We enjoyed our breakfast experience here very much. Everything tasted great and freshly made with quality ingredients. We even bought some delicious Peach Slices to take with us. We hope Ryan and Jessica enjoyed the Umami Hamburger vouchers we gave them. A few months later my wife and I were staying in L.A overnight to see Gary Clark Jr at The Greek Theatre and we just knew that we had to have breakfast at this fabulous cafe again before we drove back to San Diego.
We were standing in line on a chilly Sunday morning at about 8.30am waiting to place our order. A hot Mocha and a Famous Damus with the Bacon upgrade for each of us sounded like a great idea. And I couldn’t resist one of the yummy looking Pudding Cakes. I had a little hello with Jessica the owner who was working hard in the engine room orchestrating the breakfast orders. It’s poetry in motion the way things flow and mix in this classy cafe. Our breakfast order was ready in no time !
I even had a chat with Ryan again, that’s Jessica’s other half. This is the way breakfast should be . . great atmosphere, everything keeps flowing along nicely and the long community table inside is great for having a chat with fellow diners. Our hot Mochas tasted delicious and we loved our Famous Damus with fresh baked Ciabattas. We also scored a parking spot less than a hundred feet away. Our breakfast experience was just as good as last time if not better. We will always come back here when we are visiting L.A.
