The Getty Villa

TOTALLY ENTHRALLING !

Our view from up above.

My wife and I were up in Santa Monica for a weekend getaway. Apart from dinner and breakfast at a couple of our fav eateries in Santa Monica our main mission was to visit here on Sunday. If you have never seen a ROMAN VILLA this may be as close you get. We first visited this architectural masterpiece about 4 years ago. THERE IS A CATCH ! You can’t just turn up at the gate and expect to be admitted. Admission is free and requires a timed-entry reservation . . for whatever number of people in your group. No reservation no entry ! So I jumped online a few weeks ago and ticked a 10am arrival on Sunday, March 26th. The Getty Villa is open 6 days a week from 10am – 5pm. Closed on Tuesdays.

It’s all beautiful !

We checked out of the Ambrose Hotel in Santa Monica and made it here in 15 minutes. BUT WAIT THERE’S MORE ! It will cost you $20 to park your car which you pay in advance before entering the huge multi level parking garage. There are multiple elevators to take you to the higher levels. Of course we stopped to take lots of pics as we do . . it was fun with our new iPhone 14 Pros instead of lugging around our heavy Nikon D610 DSLR plus lenses.

WOW !

We wanted the early start so we didn’t feel rushed to see everything . . trust me we saw everything ! There was an incredible exhibition of jewelry and other exotic pieces from NUBIA which was due to finish on April 3rd. ABSOLUTELY AMAZING ! We saw so many breathtaking artifacts . . beyond our imagination. I will let my photos do the talking. At 1pm we stopped for a nice lunch at The Cafe At The Getty Villa. So don’t think about visiting this wondrous place . . just do it !
