Bread Head

BAD ASS SANDWICHES !

Menu.

At home I am known as THE SANDWICH KING because I make super delicious sandwiches with the best ingredients we can find. FOCACCIA ! But our fav bread back in Australia was focaccia and it is ever so hard to find here. BACK STORY ! My wife and I left home at 11am in La Jolla for the super fun drive to Los Angeles . . East L.A to be precise to drop off our high end Gaggia espresso machine for repair. ENDLESS TRAFFIC JAM ! What first looked like a 2 hour plus trip turned into 3 and half hours. We already knew where we wanted to have lunch . . my wife had done her homework and found Bread Head which was serving our kind of gourmet quality sandwiches on house baked focaccia.

Muffaletta Sandwich.

FINALLY ! As we were leaving the espresso machine repair place on Griffith Park Blvd I said to the owner . . . gotta get some lunch asap. He replied when you hit Sunset Blvd you’ll be right. NO WAY ! Even though we were starving the only place we wanted to have lunch was still 40 minutes away. WHAM BAM ! While my wife parked our wheels in a metered street parking spot across the street I headed in here at 3.45pm. TWO GUYS ! As I entered I ran into 2 friendly guys who I assumed were the owners . . Chioke & Buster. We had a quick friendly chat and they explained they were not the 2 owners I had seen in a photo on Instagram.

Very delicious !

COUNTER SERVICE ! My wife grabbed a spot at a table while I ordered at the service counter. Sadie the ever smiling cashier took my order for a MUFFALETTA ( Fra’ mani Salami Cotto, Mortadella, Pit Smoked Ham, Provolone, Swiss, Castelvetrano Olive Salad, Garlic, Mayo ) and every sandwich is served on their house baked focaccia. OMG . . and just 14 bucks ! The place was pretty packed out so we figured the sandwiches must be as good as their 5 star reviews on Google Maps. YEAH BABY ! Our mouthwatering looking Muffaletta arrived ( with 2 plates as I requested ) el pronto courtesy of a smiling food runner. JUST MAYBE THE BEST DINE OUT LUNCH SANDWICH EVER !

Craft beer etc.

SURPRISE SURPRISE ! When my wife went to dump our lunch plates etc in the trash receptacle a helpful guy nearby took over and did the deed. And soon after we found out this guy was Alex Williams the co-owner with Jordan Snyder. Of course we had to have a chat with Alex who came across as a very humble yet sharp thinking guy. AND GREAT VALUE ! Hopefully the guys will open up a location in La Jolla . . I’m sure they will kill it. Oh and they have some really great craft beers in cans . . hazy IPA’s etc. After overnighting at The Ambrose Hotel we checked out around 11.30am on Sunday to begin the super fun 2 hour plus drive home to La Jolla.

Calabrian Turkey Sandwich.

BACK FOR LUNCH ! We would need to stop along the way to top up our Tesla Y so why not grab a delicious take out sandwich here. This suggestion of mine earned me 1000 brownie points from my wife. We nipped straight over here from the hotel and arrived a few minutes before midday. While my wife drove around in circles I zipped in to grab some lunch. A helpful cashier named Elle took my order for a CALABRIAN TURKEY ( RC Provisions Roasted Turkey Breast, Hooks 1 year Cheddar, Iceberg Lettuce, Calabrian Mayo ) on house baked focaccia for just $15. I ran into the 2 cool dudes Chioke and Buster again who told me the Calabrian Mayo has a chili kick hence the name.

Friendly staff !

THEN I WAS GONE ! My wife picked me up out front and we headed towards home 122 miles away. DELICIOUS LUNCH ! We stopped at the Tesla Supercharging Station inside the Outlets at San Clemente around 2pm for a quick top up. We totally enjoyed our well made ( with top quality ingredients ) Calabrian Turkey Sandwich . . that house baked focaccia is a winner every time. SEE YOU AGAIN ONE DAY !
