My wife and I hit the road very early on Sunday so we could have breakfast here. I had earlier loaded our road bikes on the bike rack so we could ride around beautiful Coronado Island after brekkie ( breakfast ). We usually come here for lunch because their in house baked cakes are the absolute best . . their Chocolate Raspberry Silk Torte is our favorite. However the last couple of times we have stopped by for lunch our favorite cake was sold out. We were prepared this time.
Hence our early breakfast pilgrimage because I phoned here on Saturday and spoke to one of the staff named Casey about buying a whole Chocolate Raspberry Silk Torte. Casey told me the pastry chef bakes fresh cakes every morning and we had a good chance of buying a whole cake when we turned up for breakfast on Sunday morning. After parking our wheels a few doors away we walked in just before 9.30pm. And it was quite busy as always !
It was still a bit cool outside so we bypassed the outdoor patio and found a table inside. A server named Jose brought some glasses of water to our table within a minute or so. We were starving . . not even a latte at home before we left. A lovely server named Christine came over to take our breakfast order . . 2 Lattes with Monin Hazelnut Syrup straight off the bat thank you. In the meantime we studied the breakfast menu which featured nice simple healthy choices.
My wife decided on a Ham & Gruyere Cheese Quiche with a side of fresh Fruit and I chose a Bacon Panino with a side of fresh Fruit. Our tall lattes were on our table within a few minutes and oh it was great to have our wake up coffees. We could see more people streaming in as we waited for our breakfast dishes so we were happy we beat the rush. My wife and I have been having lunch here regularly since about 2014 whenever we ride our road bikes around Coronado Island on a Sunday.
We have had lunch at a few other restaurants that suit our purpose . . dressed in our bike apparel but consider Tartine the best for the fresh made food, the good lattes, the friendly service and THE CAKES. Our breakfast order came out together and everything looked fabulous. My wife thought her Ham & Gruyere Cheese Quiche was as good as anything out there and my Bacon Panino tasted very fresh & wholesome. Our sides of fresh Fruit were exactly that . . delicious fresh fruit.
In the meantime we found out that the Chocolate Raspberry Silk Torte that we thought we were going to buy straight out of the oven turned out to be a Chocolate Mousse Cake . . not our preferred choice though still a lovely cake. We decided to buy the remaining 4 slices of the Chocolate Raspberry Silk Torte in the display case. We had to go home with some of our favorite cake. Jenny the friendly co-owner of Tartine came by our table to have a chat as she remembered us from our previous visits. We totally enjoyed our lovely lattes, our delicious breakfast meals and appreciated the wonderful service of Christine our server. We left very happy with our box of 4 slices of the incredible Chocolate Raspberry Silk Torte !
